What is fiber optic cable?
Fiber optic cables are the most advanced cable technology used today. Manufactured in the form of optical fiber, fiber optic cables online allow for information to be sent at extremely high speeds, making it a perfect choice for many different networking applications including voice and video. The first fiber-optic cable was developed by researcher Charles K. Kao in 1968 at AT&T's Bell Laboratories research facility in New Jersey. The result was a huge improvement over existing copper wire technology because it could transmit data signals without interference from electrical fields generated within its own sheath (a layer surrounding each individual strand). Fiber optic cables are strands of optically pure glass or plastic core nearly as thin as a human hair that carries digital information over long distances. They have been used in the telecommunications industry since the early 1970s and are now used by virtually every major corporation, government agency, university, hospit...
